Keelung City Cultural Affairs Bureau Library

The library of Keelung City Cultural Affairs Bureau formerly was a private library “Ishizaka library” which was established on October 11, 1909 by Mr. Ishizaka Sousaku, known as the “Father of Taiwan's library,” and was located at present site of the Taiwan bank, Keelung branch. After the retrocession of Taiwan, “Ishizaka library” transformed into “Keelung Municipal Library,” and moved to present site of Keelung Municipal Hospital Outpatient Center, offering Keelung citizens a chance to borrow books.

On August 27, 1985, as Keelung City Cultural Center was officially inaugurated, Keelung Municipal Library moved to the second and third floors of the center, and restructured to “Keelung City Cultural Affairs Bureau Library.” And then, in 2003 we sought grants from Council for Cultural Affairs to improve the library's antiquated equipment. On March 16, 2004 it was reopened, with a whole new look to meet the public, and provided a single service counter window and cozy reading environment, convenient for reader use.

The library is located on the second and third floors in Keelung City Cultural Center, covering about 1,206 Ping. To serve the different needs of the public, the library has a total of eight districts which are the children's room, the joint service counter, area for public computer to access to the Internet, and audio-visual room located on the second floor, as well as the general reading room, open-shelf reading room, reference room, periodicals room, local cultural and historical data room and dedicated youth area on the third floor, to provide diverse and rich collection of resources and reading services.
